This seminar will examine the work of the injury stream of the CRE to quantify the global burden of injury and interpersonal violence experienced by adolescents, uncover the evidence to support investment in effective interventions, as well as the gaps. The seminar will close with a deep dive into road injury, the leading cause of injury for adolescents, reviewing recent research findings and first-hand experiences of young people. \u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Questions this event will address:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>What is the global burden of injury and interpersonal violence mortality and morbidity for adolescents aged 10-24 years?<\/li><li>What evidence exists to support investment in effective interventions to reduce injury-related harms for adolescents and where are the gaps?<\/li><li>For road injury, the leading cause of injury-related harm for adolescents, what do we know about risk factors, and perspectives of young people on how to manage risk?<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Speakers:<\/strong>\u00a0Professor Rebecca Ivers,\u00a0Dr Patricia Cullen,\u00a0Dr Amy Peden &amp; Ms Amy Wang<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Scientia Professor Rebecca Ivers AM<\/strong> is Head of School with the School of Population Health, UNSW Sydney, and Honorary Professorial Fellow at the George Institute for Global Health. Professor Ivers leads a global research program focusing on the prevention and management of injury with a strong focus on young people.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Dr Patricia Cullen <\/strong>is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Population Health. Patricia\u2019s research spans public health, psychology and implementation science. Much of her\u00a0research centers on implementation and evaluation of optimal care for women and young people, with a focus on integrating trauma and violence-informed care in health settings.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Dr Amy Peden <\/strong>is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Population Health and holds an NHMRC Fellowship. Amy\u2019s work focuses on unintentional injury risks facing young people and those living in regional and rural areas. Much of her work focuses on drowning prevention for which she regularly appears in the media.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Ms Amy Wang <\/strong>is a research assistant in the School of Population Health. It is a field that spans policy makers from multiple sectors, researchers from different disciplines, and practitioners working in health services, schools and communities and encompasses a multitude of health topics and concerns.
