{"id":1561,"date":"2016-06-30T16:36:28","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T06:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adolescentsourfuture.com\/?p=1561"},"modified":"2016-07-01T16:18:23","modified_gmt":"2016-07-01T06:18:23","slug":"sowc2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adolescentsourfuture.com\/sowc2016\/","title":{"rendered":"A fair chance for every child"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On June 28, UNICEF launched their\u00a0flagship report, <a href=\"http:\/\/unicef.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=868bc193d9fcfe837d3fb7bc3&amp;id=6ee11420ba&amp;e=0666ead0e5\"><em>The<\/em> <em>State of the World\u2019s Children 2016: A fair chance for every child<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0The report argues that progress for the most disadvantaged children is the defining condition for delivering on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>Unless the world tackles inequity today, by 2030:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unicef.org\/sowc2016\/\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1562 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/adolescentsourfuture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6.jpg\" alt=\"6\" width=\"240\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 165 million children will live on no more than US$1.90 a day, nine out of 10 of them in sub-Saharan Africa.<\/li>\n<li>Almost 70 million children under the age of 5 will die of largely preventable causes.<\/li>\n<li>750 million women will have been married as children, perpetuating inter-generational cycles of disadvantage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have a clear choice to make: Invest in accelerated progress for the children being left behind, or face the consequences of a far more divided and unfair world by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Inequity is not inevitable.\u00a0Better information on the most vulnerable children; integrated solutions to the challenges they face; innovative ways to address old problems; more equitable investment; and increased involvement by communities \u2013 all these measures can help level the playing field for children.<\/p>\n<p>UNICEF is urging every country to develop a concrete, time-bound plan for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals that focuses on reaching the most disadvantaged children first. An equity approach \u2013 one that invests in the most disadvantaged children \u2013 is the best way to offer a fair chance for every child.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8221; Inequity is not inevitable. Inequality is a choice. Promoting equity \u2013 a fair chance for every child, for all children \u2013 is also a choice. A choice we can make, and must make.
