Professor Susan Sawyer holds the Geoff and Helen Handbury Chair of Adolescent Health at The University of Melbourne. She is Director of the Centre for Adolescent Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital, a WHO collaborating centre for adolescent health. A paediatrician by training, Professor Sawyer has helped establish the field of Adolescent Health and Medicine in Australia. Her clinical and research interests have largely focused on models of quality health care for young people in both primary care and specialist settings. She is president of the International Association of Adolescent Health, a board member of the (US) Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine and an executive member of the Australian Association of Adolescent Health. From 2011-2016, she chaired the Technical Steering Committee on Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health for WHO.
