Chris Bonell is a Professor of Public Health Sociology and Head of Department of Social & Environmental Health Research at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Prior to working at LSHTM Prof Bonell was Professor of Sociology & Social Policy at University College London and Professor of Sociology & Social Intervention at the University of Oxford.

Having previously worked as a Research Team Leader in the UK government’s Social Exclusion Unit. His area of expertise is in adolescent health, sexual health, substance use and social exclusion and health, as well as in research methodology. Professor Bonell sits on the National Institute of Health Research Public Health Programme Board, is a trustee of the Association of Young People’s Health and is a member of the International Advisory Group for the CONSORT-SPI extension for Complex Social Intervention Randomised Controlled Trials.
